Summary:A method for puncturing an LDPC(Low Density Parity Check) code is provided to obtain codes with all code rates required for HARQ(Hybrid Auto Retransmission reQuest) and IR(Incremental Redundancy) methods by applying block unit puncturing and bit unit puncturing methods. A method for puncturing LDPC code includes the steps of: generating a mother code of a predetermined code rate; dividing bit nodes composing a parity region into groups per block of 'z'; deciding a transmission code rate for transmitting data and deciding a puncturing bit number to be punctured from the mother code according to a transmission code rate; and performing a puncturing process in one of a block unit puncturing method, a bit unit puncturing method, or a dual puncturing method for performing both the block and bit unit puncturing methods according to the transmission code rate to transmit the data.
