Summary:A method and an apparatus for informing abrupt acceleration of a vehicle to a driver are provided to enhance reliability by reflecting a weighted value corresponding to the type and shape of a road in acceleration amounts. The current position of a mobile terminal is identified, and the type and shape of a road on which the vehicle is running is recognized(304). First and second weighted values are selected from plural weighted values related to road types and shapes based on the current driving road type and shape, respectively(306,308). A reference value is selected from the weighted values related to the road types and shapes based on the current driving road condition(310). An acceleration value is measured(312). The current acceleration amounts are calculated based on the first and second weighted values, and the reference value(314). A difference between past acceleration amounts and the calculation result is determined as an acceleration change amount(316). Abrupt acceleration is informed to a driver when the acceleration change amount is over the reference value(318).
