SEAL ASSEMBLY FOR MATERIALS WITH DIFFERENT COEFFICIENTS OF THERMAL EXPANSION

A clamping element for a seal assembly has rigid first and second segments (307, 309), and a rigid connecting segment (311) between and attached thereto, with either two or more seal elements (317, 315, 319) or a seal element (317) and a compliant sealing member (321) disposed between the first and...

Summary:A clamping element for a seal assembly has rigid first and second segments (307, 309), and a rigid connecting segment (311) between and attached thereto, with either two or more seal elements (317, 315, 319) or a seal element (317) and a compliant sealing member (321) disposed between the first and second segments. The connecting segment has a central portion made of a material having a coefficient of thermal expansion that is intermediate the largest and smallest of the coefficients of thermal expansion of the two or more seal elements or, when there is only one seal element, is less than the coefficient of thermal expansion thereof.
