Summary:A method for using optical lines, used in an HFC(Hybrid-Fiber Coaxial) network and an E-PON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network), in common is provided to offer a large capacity service by overcoming restriction on the transmission capacity of an HFC network through an E-PON. A CMTS(Cable Modem Transmission System)(301) used in an HFC network, an OLT(301) used in an E-PON, and an optical add/drop multiplexer(311) are installed at a CO (Central Office). Optical signals, transmitted through two optical lines(309) from the CO, are divided into HFC optical signals and E-PON optical signals by an RN(Remote Node)(302). Optical signals having a wavelength of 1310nm are transmitted to a CMTS ONU(Optical Network Unit)(304), and they are converted into cable signals. Then, the converted cable signals are transmitted to each subscriber's cable modem(307). Optical signals having other E-PON wavelengths are branched by the optical splitter of the RN(302). The branched signals are transmitted to an ONU(303), and they are converted into Ethernet signals. The converted Ethernet signals are supplied to each subscriber through a UTP cable(308).
