Summary:A semiconductor light emitting element mounting member in which effective reflectivity of light is enhanced than ever in a metal film functioning as an electrode layer and/or a reflective layer, a semiconductor light emitting element mounting member in which adhesion to a substrate, mechanical strength and reliability of the metal film are enhanced than ever and a semiconductor light emitting device employing the semiconductor light emitting element mounting member and exhibiting excellent emission characteristics. The semiconductor light emitting element mounting member (submount (1)) comprises metal films (11, 12) of Ag, Al or an alloy thereof formed on a substrate (10) and having a grain size of 0.5 mum or less and a centerline mean roughness Ra of 0.1mum or less. The semiconductor light emitting device (LE2) comprises a semiconductor light emitting element (LE1) mounted on the submount (1). ® KIPO & WIPO 2007
