Summary: | Provided is a method for isolating and purifying porphyrans with a high yield, which avoids a need for the use of a harmful toxic solvent such as cetyl pyridinium chloride or ethanol. The method for isolating and purifying porphyrans comprises the steps of: (a) dipping dried laver (porphyra yezoensis) in deionized water, heating it to perform hydrothermal extraction, filtering the extract, and adding ethanol to the filtrate to obtain crude porphyrans; (b) passing the crude porphyrans through a DEAE-52 column equilibrated with water, fractionating the product with 0.5M NaCl solution, performing dialysis with water, and concentrating the produce under vacuum; (c) removing lipids from the resultant powder by using chloroform and methanol, and passing the product through a Sephacryl S-200 column; and (d) carrying out gel filtration by using a Sephadex G-75 column packed with water. |
