Summary:A method and a device for manufacturing a float plate glass capable of stably holding the edge of a molten glass ribbon. The gutter-like body (12) of the float plate glass manufacturing device (10) can lead a part of a molten tin (16) flowing from the outlet (32) of the lateral flow passage (34) of the gutter-like body (12) to a bathtub edge part (14A) to a bathtub center part (14B) through a vertical flow passage (30) and a through hole (36). Since the flow (q1) of the molten tin (16) flowing from the bathtub edge part (14A) into the inlet (28) of the vertical flow passage (30) and the flow (q2) of the molten tin (16) flowing from the bathtub center part (14B) into the inlet (28) of the vertical flow passage (30) along the advancing direction of the molten glass ribbon (20) are approximately made equal to each other, and a recessed part (26) formed to be suitable for holding the edge is formed approximately uniform at a bath level (24) along the advancing direction of the molten glass ribbon (20), the overall length of the edge (22) can be stably held by the recessed part (26), and stable glass quality can be provided.
