Summary:PURPOSE: Provided are a method for decalcifying a polymer to remove a metal component from a solution containing a polymer more effectively, and a method for preparing a polymer containing no metal component with a high purity by using a polymer solution obtained by the method. CONSTITUTION: A solution containing a polymer is contacted with a silica gel which contains 4 wt% or more of moisture and has an average diameter of 500 micrometers or less, a pore volume of 0.1-2 ml/g and a specific surface area of 300-1,500 m2/g, to remove the metal component from the polymer solution. Preferably the polymer solution is prepared by a homogeneous system catalyst using at least one kind of organoaluminum compound, and the homogeneous system catalyst is the product of a metallocene compound with an organoaluminum compound or an aluminoxane. Preferably the polymer is a homopolymer or copolymer of an α-olefin or an aromatic vinyl compound, or a polymer of an α-olefin and an olefin having at least one cyclic structure.
