Summary:PURPOSE: An organic EL(Electro-Luminescent) element and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to reduce heat generated at the organic EL element by reducing the resistance of a cathode and to emit the heat outside during the operation of the organic EL element. CONSTITUTION: A top-emission type organic EL element includes an organic layer(7) between an anode(2) and a cathode(8). The organic EL element further includes an auxiliary electrode(9) for the cathode. The auxiliary electrode is formed on the organic layer except for a light-emitting region of the cathode to reduce the resistance of the cathode. The auxiliary electrode is formed on an area except for the cathode upper light emitting layer. Alternatively, the auxiliary electrode is formed on an area except for the cathode upper light emitting layer between the organic layer and the cathode.
