Summary:PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method of transmitting and receiving a pilot pattern set in an OFDM communication system are provided to increase the number of distinguishable base stations by using the pilot pattern. CONSTITUTION: A base station distinction pattern time interval for base station distinction pattern is divided into predetermined sub-time intervals. A plurality of possible reference signal patterns are determined by considering a predetermined setup time and a predetermined bandwidth in each of the sub-time intervals. The predetermined number of the reference signal patterns is selected from each of the sub-time intervals. A base station distinction pattern is determined by combining the reference signal patterns selected from the sub-time intervals.
