Summary:PURPOSE: A method for setting the paging cycle of a mobile terminal is provided to minimize the power consumption by extending the paging cycle of a mobile terminal more than a normal case when the user wants to receive a specific number only in a deep-sleep mode and reducing the wake-up frequency of the mobile terminal. CONSTITUTION: The user of a mobile terminal sets a paging cycle value(n), inputs a specific phone number, and transmits them to a base station. The mobile terminal monitors a paging block at the set paging cycle. The base station receives the paging cycle value(n) and the specific phone number, and then registers the information in a home location register. If the base station receives the specific phone number registered in the home location register, the base station transmits a paging signal, repeated as much as the paging cycle value(n) during the previous paging cycle, to the mobile terminal.
