Summary:PURPOSE: A method for preparing ditrimethylolpropane is provided, to obtain ditrimethylolpropane with a high purity through only crystallization by controlling the amount of an organic solvent, a crystallization temperature and a crystallization time. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of reacting n-butyl aldehyde and formaldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst to prepare a product solution; extracting the product solution with an organic extractor to obtain an extract; distilling the extract to separate trimethylolpropane and to obtain a distillation residue; and adding 0.6-10 times weight of an organic solvent to the distillation residue, and treating the obtained solution at a crystallization temperature Y (deg.C) for 0.1-20 hours to crystallize ditrimethylolpropane represented by the formula 1, wherein Y satisfies the relation represented by (30xln(X) - 92) <=Y<=55 (wherein X is the wt% of ditrimethylolpropane in the distillation residue before an organic solvent is added). Preferably the organic solvent is at least one kind of solvent selected from the group consisting of an aliphatic ketone and an aliphatic ester.
