Summary:PURPOSE: Provided is a method for manufacturing glass, applied to back light display and fluorescent lamp, which absorbs ultraviolet(UV) light and transmits visible light, and has high transmission and steep UV absorption edge or limit in the visible range by controlling glass components. CONSTITUTION: The UV-absorbing glass manufactured by melting raw materials in an oxidative condition is composed of 55-79wt.% of SiO2, 3-25wt.% of B2O3, 0-10wt.% of Al2O3, 0-10wt.% of Li2O, 0-10wt.% of Na2O , 0-10wt.% of K2O, 0-2wt.% of MgO, 0-3wt.% of CaO, 0-3wt.% of SrO, 0-3wt.% of BaO , 0-3wt.% of ZnO, 0-3wt.% of ZrO2, 0-3wt.% of CeO2, 0-1wt.% of Fe2O3, 0-3wt.% of WO3, 0-3wt.% of Bi2O3, 0-3wt.% of MoO3, 0.1-10wt.% of TiO2 and 0.01-1wt.% of As2O3 as a refining agent, wherein the total amount of Li2O, Na2O and K2O is 0.5-16wt.%, and the total amount of MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO and ZnO is 0-10wt.%. The oxidative condition is made by adding 6wt.% of alkaline nitrates and/or alkaline earth nitrates to raw materials. The light devices(UV lamp, fluorescent lamp and xenon lamp) and display devices(computer monitor, telephone display and liquid crystal) including UV-absorbing glass are characterized by comprising the above materials, wherein 95% of Ti is Ti4+, the valence state of Ti.
