PURPOSE: A finishing tape for a pipe insulating material and its preparation method are provided, to improve remarkably elongation and flame retardancy without deterioration of tear strength, tensile strength and elastic coefficient and to obtain a finishing tape capable of replacing the PVC tape causing pollution. CONSTITUTION: The finishing tape comprises 6-24 parts by weight of ethylene methacrylate; 25-35 parts by weight of ethylene vinyl acetate; 10-20 parts by weight of linear low density polyethylene; 1-8 parts by weight of ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber; 1-3 parts by weight of maleic anhydride-modified ethylene methacrylate; 25-35 parts by weight of Al(OH)3; and 1-5 parts by weight of phosphorus powder. The method comprises the steps of soaking phosphorus powder in a fatty acid and coating it with a low molecular weight EVA; mixing the coated one with Al(OH)3 powder and concentrating it with EVA having a flow index of about 5 g/10 min at 190 deg.C to prepare a flame retardant master batch; dispersing the master batch in a resin to prepare a flame retardant composition chip; and extruding the composition.
