Summary:PURPOSE: A method and a computer program product for transmitting/receiving messages through a customizable communication channel and a programming model on a messaging infrastructure are provided to allow additional modification or enhancement to the messaging infrastructure while present functionality is kept. CONSTITUTION: Messaging layer modules(210) provide endpoint-to-endpoint transmission of the messages and implement support for message transmission protocols. Channel layer modules(240) provide message exchange semantics on the messaging layer modules. Service layer modules(270) provide programming modules for interacting with the messaging infrastructure on the channel layer modules by publishing attributes of the messaging infrastructure accessed by software designed to use the messaging infrastructure.
