Summary:PURPOSE: A cosmetic or dermatological composition containing 8-hexadecene-1,16-dicarboxylic acid effective for preventing and treating light-sensitive skin diseases, in particular polymorphous light dermatosis is provided. It is used in managing aged skin, sensitive skin, tanned skin or irritated skin by shaving, and as a cosmetic activating agent having a skin whitening function, a skin external application activating agent or a sunburn protection activating agent for cosmetic skin care. CONSTITUTION: The cosmetic or dermatological composition contains 0.005 to 20% by weight of 8-hexadecene-1,16-dicarboxylic acid and 0.001 to 15% by weight of cosmetic additives, based on the total weight of the composition. For an example, W/O/W cream is prepared by mixing 0.70% by weight of 8-hexadecene-1,16-dicarboxylic acid, 3.00% by weight of glyceryl stearate, 0.75% by weight of PEG-100-stearate, 2.00% by weight of behenyl alcohol, 8.0% by weight of capric/caprylic triglyceride, 5.00% by weight of octyldodecanol, 3.00% by weight of C12-15 alkylbenzoate, 0.2% by weight of isoflavone-150, 0.80% by weight of magnesium sulfonate, trace amounts of preservatives and fragrances and remaining water to make 100% by weight and then controlling the pH to 6.0.
