Summary:PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for managing data integrity in a nonvolatile memory system are provided to increase the number of inaccurate bits which be corrected in a page encoded using an ECC algorithm, without degrading the performance or increasing an overhead requirement rapidly. CONSTITUTION: According to the method for encoding data related with a page comprising a data area and an overhead area as being in a nonvolatile memory of a memory system, at least a part of the page is divided into two segments of the data which includes the first segment and the second segment(620). Error correction code(ECC) calculation is performed on the first segment to encode the first segment(624). The ECC calculation is performed on the second segment to encode the second segment(624). The second segment is encoded separately from the first segment.
