Summary:PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a method for fabricating the liquid crystal display are provided to form a gate insulating layer having various thickness. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display includes the first and second thin film transistors, and a gate insulating layer(62,72,78). The first thin film transistor drives liquid crystal cells formed at intersections of a plurality of signal lines included in a display part. The second thin film transistor is included in a driving circuit formed in a display panel together with the display part. The gate insulating layer is formed between a gate electrode(56,86) and an active layer(54) included in each of the first and second thin film transistors. The gate insulating layer is formed of at least two layers having an etch stopper. The gate insulating layer has different thickness in the first and second thin film transistors. 본 발명은 게이트절연막을 위치에 따라 두께를 다르게 형성할 수 있는 액정표시소자 및 그 제조 방법을 제공하는 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 액정표시소자는 화상표시부에 포함되는 다수의 신호라인들과 교차로 할당된 영역마다 마련된 액정셀들 각각을 구동하기 위한 제1 박막트랜지스터와, 화상표시부와 함께 표시패널 내에 형성되는 구동회로에 포함되는 제2 박막트랜지스터와, 제1 및 제2 박막트랜지스터의 각각에 포함되는 게이트전극과 액티브층 사이에 형성되며 에치스트퍼층을 갖는 적어도 2층 구조의 게이트절연막을 구비하며, 제1 및 제2 박막트랜지스터의 게이트절연막은 서로 다른 두께로 형성되는 것을 특징으로 한다.
