PURPOSE: A device for controlling communication of a multi-room type air conditioner and a method therefor are provided to realize smooth normal communication between an outdoor unit and indoor units by preventing communication hold. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling communication of a multi-room type air conditioner connects communication lines(L1,L2) between a single outdoor unit(30) and a plurality of indoor units(40A,40B,40C). A power sensor(44) senses a power-state of each indoor unit. A switching unit connects or disconnects the communication lines to or from communication modules(41) of the indoor units. A microcomputer(42) recognizes power on/off states according to a signal inputted through the power sensor. If the indoor units are turned off, the microcomputer controls the switching unit to disconnect the communication lines. 본 발명은 실내기의 전원 상태를 감지하는 전원감지부와, 실내기의 통신모듈에 통신선을 결선 또는 단선시키기 위한 스위칭수단, 및 상기 실내기가 전원 오프이면 통신선을 단선시키는 제어수단을 포함한다. 본 발명은 통신 홀드 현상을 방지하여 실외기와 실내기 사이에 정상 통신을 원활하게 수행할 수 있고, 장애 요인이 줄어들어 고장 수리를 간편하게 수행할 수 있다.
