Summary:PURPOSE: A disc head slider with a bearing pad structure is provided to reduce the sensitivity of fly height and fly height modulation. CONSTITUTION: A head slider(110) includes a substrate(200) having a leading surface(202), a trailing surface(204), the first and second side edges(206,208), a back surface and a disc-facing surface(201) opposite to the back surface. The disc-facing surface(201) includes a bearing plane and a recessed area recessed from the bearing plane. An end layer(250) is attached to the trailing surface(204) of the substrate(200). The end layer(250) includes bearing pads(238,239) formed substantially solely on the end layer(250) that is generally parallel to the bearing plane. The bearing pads(238,239) are positioned adjacent to and rearward of the recessed area to receive fluid flow from the recessed area.
