Summary:PURPOSE: An eye-type buttonhole sewing machine comprising an x-y table with an x carriage which is guided on the sewing machine and on which a y carriage is displaceably guided while having a bearing plate is provided. It permits easy and precision motion in an x direction and y direction. CONSTITUTION: The buttonhole sewing machine comprises: a needle(8) capable of being driven in a vertically alternating motion; an x-y table(13) for supporting an x carriage mounted on the sewing machine for the displacement in an x direction and a y carriage mounted on the x carriage; an x motor(28) having the shape of an electric motor and being directly connected to the x carriage through a driving device; and a y motor(36) having the shape of an electric motor and being directly connected to a threaded spindle(39) and the y carriage through a spindle nut(41) and a sliding coupling. The driving device is in the shape of a cam driving device and contains a can disk connected to a driven shaft of the x motor.
