PURPOSE: A home-in control method and apparatus in a disc drive are provided to accurately control a home-in mode in consideration of the position of a pick-up on the basis of the number of driving pulses of a slide transfer motor. CONSTITUTION: A home-in control apparatus of a disc drive includes a pick-up(102), a motor(106), and a controller(108). The pick-up irradiates lights on a disc(101) mounted on the disc drive. The motor moves the pick-up in the direction of the diameter of the disc. The controller detects and stores the position of the pick-up on the basis of a driving pulse of the motor and, when a home-in mode is set, controls the generation of the driving pulse of the motor using the position information of the pick-up and home-in position information based on the driving pulse. 본 발명은 디스크 구동기에 있어서 슬라이드 이송 모터의 구동 펄스 수를 토대로 한 픽업의 위치를 고려하여 홈-인 모드를 정확하게 제어하기 위한 홈-인 제어 방법 및 장치이다. 본 발명에 따른 방법은, 디스크 구동기에 구비되어 있는 픽업을 디스크의 반경 방향으로 이동시키는 모터의 구동 펄스 수를 토대로 픽업의 위치에 상응하는 정보를 검출하여 저장하는 단계; 홈-인 모드가 제어되면, 디스크 구동기에 장착된 디스크의 홈-인 지점과 픽업의 위치에 상응하는 정보를 연산한 결과를 토대로 모터의 구동 펄스의 발생을 제어하는 단계를 포함한다. 따라서 별도의 센서를 사용하지 않고 정확하게 홈-인 모드를 제어할 수 있고, 홈-인 모드 제어로 인해 디스크 구동기에 소음이 발생되거나 기구적인 마모가 발생되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
