PURPOSE: A herbal plant composition for atherosclerosis which is harmless safety to human body without adverse effects even when administered for a long period of time is provided. Therefore, it can inhibit arteriosclerosis. CONSTITUTION: A composition for atherosclerosis contains 3 to 5 parts by weight of Atractylodis Rhizoma, 0.5 to 1.5 parts by weight of Thujae orientalis folium et ramulus, 3 to 5 parts by weight of Scutellariae Radix, 0.1 to 1 parts by weight of Poria cocos and 0.1 to 1 parts by weight of Glycyrrhizae Radix. The composition is formulated into powders, granules, capsules and tablets and orally administered in an amount of 1 to 10g per day. 본 발명은 창출, 측백엽, 황금, 복령 및 감초를 유효 성분으로 하는 항동맥경화용 생약 조성물에 관한 것으로, 창출(蒼朮; Atractylodes Rhizoma,Kitamura), 측백엽(側柏葉; Thujae Folium et Ramulus,(L.) Endl), 황금(黃芩; Scutellariae Radix,Georg), 복령(茯笭; Pachymae Fungus,Rumphius) 및 감초(甘草; Glycyrrhizae Radix)를 유효 성분으로 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하며, 창출 3∼5 중량부, 측백엽 0.5∼1.5 중량부, 황금 3∼5 중량부, 복령 0.1∼1 중량부 및 감초 0.1∼1 중량부의 혼합물인 것을 특징으로 하는 본 발명의 항동맥경화용 조성물은, 고콜레스테롤 식이에 의해 경시적으로 상승되는 혈청중 콜레스테롤 농도를 현저하게 하강시키지는 못하지만 동맥경화증의 발생을 현저하게 억제하므로, 장기간 계속적으로 복용하여도 부작용이 없는 안전한 항동맥경화용제로서, 혈중 콜레스테롤 함량이 높게 유지되는 경우 동맥경화증 발생을 억제할 수 있는 안전한 약제로 사용될 수 있다.
