PURPOSE: A method and apparatus are provided which is related to a method and apparatus for switching between an active and a standby switch fabric such that no data is lost during the switching process. CONSTITUTION: The first switch part(12) is an active mode state and the second switch part(14) is a stand-by mode state. A control signal is generated from a controller(30) before changing the first switch part into the stand-by mode state and the second switch part into the active mode state. A plurality of input parts(20,22,24,26) end the transmission of signals to the first switch part in response to the control signal. A drain timer is then operated in response to the control signal. When ending the drain timer, the signals of the input parts, are transmitted from the input parts to the second switch part. When ending the drain timer, a plurality of output parts prepares for receiving data from the second switch part. 본 발명은 데이터 트래픽 네트워크의 스위칭 시스템에 관한 것이다. 복수의 라인 카드들은 입력 및 출력 접속부들을 복수의 데이터 라인들에 제공하고 또한 적어도 두 개의 스위치 장치(switch fabric)들에 접속되어 있으며, 그 중의 하나는 활성인 스위치 장치로 지정되어 있고 다른 하나는 대기 스위치 장치로 지정되어 있다. 데이터 트래픽은 복수의 입력 및 출력 라인 카드들 사이에서 활성인 스위치 장치에 의해서 스위칭된다. 활성인 스위치 장치의 지정을 변경하는 것이 바람직한 경우에, 예를 들어서 스위치 장치에서의 장애로 인한 경우, 활성인 스위치 장치로부터의 데이터 전송들은 종료되고, 드레인 타이머가 시작된다. 드레인 타이머의 시간이 종료되거나 활성인 스위치가 비어 있다는 표시를 제공하는 경우에, 활성인 스위치 장치의 지정은 대기 중인 스위치 장치로 스위칭되며, 이후에 데이터는 새롭게 지정된 활성인 스위치 장치를 통해서 스위칭된다.
