Summary:PURPOSE: To obtain a phosphor exhibiting high brilliance, hardly suffering from luminance degradation characteristics and suitable for high-image quality display, and to provide an image display device of high image quality. CONSTITUTION: A ratio of SiO2 contained in the matrix of a conventional Tb- activated Y2SiO5 phosphor is caused to be in excess of the stoichiometric ratio by employing a green color-emitting phosphor represented by the general formula: {(Y1-y-zMyGdz)1-xTbx}2(Si1-bGebO2)1+aO3 (wherein 0<x≤1; 0≤y≤1; 0≤z≤1; 0<a≤1; 0≤b≤1; and M is at least one rare earth element selected from the group consisting of Sc, In, La, Lu, Yb, Ce, Eu, Sm, Tm, Ho, Er and Nd). The excess amount (a) of SiO2 is more preferably 0<a≤0.4 when the excess amount is changed in the general formula, and both luminance retention and luminance are far enhanced compared with conventional phosphors within this range. 본 발명은 종래의 Tb에 의해 활성화되는 YSiO형광체의 모체에 포함되는 SiO조성을 화학 양론비보다 과잉으로 하고, 화학식 {(YMGd)Tb}(SiGeO)O으로 표시되고, 또한 0<x≤1, 0≤y≤1, 0≤z≤1, 0<a≤1, 0≤b≤1의 범위의 값이고, 또한 M이 Sc, In, La, Lu, Yb, Ce, Eu, Sm, Tm, Ho, Er 및 Nd로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 1종 이상의 희토류 원소인 녹색 발광 형광체를 사용함으로써, 휘도가 높고, 휘도 열화 특성이 적고, 고화질 표시에 알맞은 형광체 및 고화질의 화상 표시 장치를 얻는 것이다.
