PURPOSE: A video playing/recording system having a background picture/sound varying function and a method of changing a background picture/sound are provided to allow a user to change the background picture/sound into another picture/sound through various interfaces. CONSTITUTION: In a background picture change mode(320), a data source path through which a background picture will be received is selected(330). Video and/or audio data items received through the selected data source path are stored(340), and then at least one of the stored video and/or audio data items is selected to be designated as a background picture or sound(350). The designated background video and/or audio data is output whenever a video playing/recording system is stopped(360). In a background picture deletion mode(370), at least one of the stored background video and/or audio data is selected and deleted(380,390). 배경 화면/사운드의 변경 기능을 갖는 비디오 재생/기록 시스템 및 배경 화면/사운드 변경 방법이 개시되어 있다. 본 발명은 배경 화면 변경 모드시 배경 화면을 수신할 데이터 소스 경로를 선택하는 과정, 상기 선택된 데이터 소스 경로를 통해 수신되는 비디오 및/또는 오디오 데이터를 저장한 후 상기 저장된 배경 비디오 및/또는 오디오 데이터들 중 적어도 하나 이상을 선택하여 배경 화면 및 또는 사운드로 지정하는 과정, 비디오 재생/기록 시스템의 정지 시점마다 상기 지정된 배경 비디오 및/또는 오디오 데이터를 출력하는 과정을 포함한다. 본 발명에 의하면, 사용자는 비디오 기록/재생 장치에서 다양한 인터페이스를 통해 배경 화면 및/또는 사운드를 자신이 원하는 화면이나 사운드 예를 들면, 가족 사진, 풍경 사진등으로 다양하게 변경할 수 있다.
