PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for controlling regeneration limit level of a system for regenerating an image are provided to prevent children from watching x-rated visual media. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling regeneration limit level of a system for regenerating an image includes the steps of setting up a password by a plurality of view limit levels according to ages(201), confirming the password before regenerating a recording medium(202), retrieving the view limit level according to ages corresponding to the confirmed password(203), and regenerating the recording medium loaded in the system for regenerating the image in the retrieved view limit level according to ages(204). 본 발명은 영상 재생 시스템의 등급별 영상 제한 재생 방법 및 장치에 관한 것으로서, 특히 DVD(Digital Video Disc) 시스템에서의 페어렌탈 등급별로 비밀번호를 설정하고, 입력된 비밀번호의 등급에 상응하는 페어렌탈 레벨로 DVD 타이틀의 재생을 제어하기 위한 영상 재생 시스템의 재생 제한 레벨 제어 방법 및 장치에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 의하면 DVD 시스템에서 페어렌탈 레벨별로 비밀번호를 부여하고, 입력되는 비밀번호에 따라서 사용자 연령에 맞는 페어렌탈 레벨이 자동으로 설정될 수 있도록 제어함으로써, 성인 사용자가 성인 등급의 페어렌탈 레벨을 설정하여 DVD 타이틀을 재생시킨 후에 페어렌탈 레벨을 재설정하지 않아도 다음 사용자의 비밀번호에 맞는 페어렌탈 레벨로 자동으로 변환되어 사용상 편리한 효과가 발생되며, 특히 실수로 페어렌탈 레벨 재설정을 하지 않아 성인 등급의 영상물이 어린이나 청소년들에게 노출되는 현상으로 방지할 수 있는 효과가 발생된다.
