PURPOSE: A water pump impeller with variable vane is provided to achieve improved cooling efficiency by automatically controlling a coolant pumping amount, while improving durability of engine and fuel efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A water pump impeller(30) comprises an impeller body(31) having a plurality of guide holes(32) formed in a radial direction at a disk, a protruded hole(33) for insertion of a driving shaft(80), a space formed by expanding the portion where the protruded hole and the disk are interconnected, and a stopper arranged within the space so as to control rotation angle of a vane; a plurality of variable vanes(40) formed into streamline so as to apply pressure to the coolant by the rotation of the impeller body, wherein each variable vane has an end hinge-coupled to the impeller body through a pin(41) and the other end having a protruded guide rotating along a guide hole; a vane control plate having a hole formed in a radial direction and a stopper for controlling rotation angle, which is attached to the rear side of the impeller body; and an expansion unit accommodated in the space of the impeller body, which expands/contracts by the temperature of the coolant so as to thereby apply force to the stopper of the vane control plate and rotate the vane control plate.
