PURPOSE: To provide a media converter with built-in local information transmitting function which transmits local information by using a frequency which lies outside the communication frequency band of a data signal, and a fault alarm signal communication system. CONSTITUTION: In a media converter 10 of a subscriber side, a control part 19 determines the transmitting frequency outside the communication frequency band, on the basis of inputted local information and outputs a signal indicating transmission. A media independent interface part 12 receives the signal, and sends out a signal at a designated frequency. In an office side media converter 30, a media-independent interface part 32 detects a frequency for transmitting the local information from a received signal. A control part 37 forms the local information, by using the detected frequency, and outputs the information to an SNMP unit. 데이터 신호들을 위한 통신 주파수 대역들 외부의 주파수를 이용하여 로컬 정보를 전송하기 위한 통합 로컬 정보 전송 기능을 구비한 미디어 변환기 및 장애 경보 신호 통신 시스템이 제공된다. 가입자의 미디어 변환기(10)에서, 제어부(19)는 입력 로컬 정보에 기초하여, 통신 주파수 대역들 외부의 전송 주파수를 설정하고 전송이 행해지라고 지시하는 신호를 출력한다. 미디어 독립 인터페이스부(12)는 이 신호를 수신하고 지시된 주파수의 신호를 전송한다. 스테이션 미디어 변환기(30)에서, 미디어 독립 인터페이스부(32)는 로컬 정보가 수신된 신호로부터전송되는 주파수를 검출한다. 그다음 제어부(37)는 검출된 주파수를 이용하여 로컬 정보를 생성하고 상기 로컬 정보를 SNMP 유닛(40)에 출력한다.
