Summary:PURPOSE: A method for compressing the spatial data of a GIS(Geographic Information System) is provided to realize the fast data search as well as minimize a size of the transmitting data, to reduce the time necessary for the data process. CONSTITUTION: In case that a relative coordinate data value for a standard point of the spatial data is less than 256, the relative coordinate data value for a standard point of the spatial data is expressed by allocating two bytes. In case that the relative coordinate data value for a standard point of the spatial data is larger than 256, the relative coordinate data value for a standard point of the spatial data is expressed by the method taking the small data size between the relative coordinate data value for a standard point of the spatial data or the relative coordinate data value for the continuous adjacent points.
