Abstract PURPOSE: A liquid crystal media and an electro-optical liquid crystal display using the liquid crystal media are provided, which liquid crystal media has a low critical voltage, a high clearing point, a low viscosity and a large slope of the electro-optical characteristic line. CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal media comprises at least one compound represented by the formula 1; and at least one compound represented by the formula 2, wherein R1 is an alkyl or alkoxy group of C1-C6 or an alkoxyalkyl, alkenyl or alkenyloxy group of C2-C7; Y1 is H or F; R2 is an alkenyl or alkenyloxy group of C2-C7; and Y21 and Y22 are independent each other and are H or F. Optionally liquid crystal media comprises further the at least one compound represented by the formula 3, wherein R31 and R32 are independent each other and are an alkyl or alkoxy group of C1-C6 or an alkoxyalkyl, alkenyl or alkenyloxy group of C2-C7; Z31, Z32 and Z32 are independent each another and are -CH2CH2-, -CH=CH-, -COO- or a single bond; o is 0 or 1; and p is 0 or 1. 본 발명은 하나 이상의 화학식 1의 화합물: 및 하나 이상의 화학식 2의 화합물: (상기 식에서, 파라미터들은 청구항 1에 정의된 바와 같다) 을 포함하는 액정 매질, 전기-광학 디스플레이에서 이들 액정 매질의 용도, 및 이들 디스플레이, 특히 STN-LCD에 관한 것이다.
