PURPOSE: A brush seal and a method of forming a brush seal segment are provided to protect end bristles in making an arch-shaped brush seal segment and get bristles of uniform flexibility all over the circumferential range of the seal. CONSTITUTION: A brush seal segment includes a plurality of bristles(16) disposed between a pair of backing plates(20, 22). The bristles are welded(24) to another adjacent proximal ends(23) and to the edges of the backing plates remote from the bristle tips(18). An end plate(32) is welded to the end faces of the backing plates at each of the opposite ends of the segment. Each end plate terminates at approximately one-half the length of the bristles along the end face to prevent the bristles from bending circumferentially and axially during handling while maintaining substantially uniform flexibility of the bristles throughout the entire length of the segment. 브러시 시일 세그먼트(12)는 한쌍의 받침 플레이트(20, 22) 사이에 배치된 다수의 강모(16)를 포함한다. 강모(16)는 인접한 그 기단부(23) 서로에 그리고 강모 팁(18)으로부터 떨어진 받침 플레이트의 에지에 용접된다. 단부 플레이트(32)는 세그먼트의 대향 단부 각각에서 받침 플레이트의 단부면에 용접된다. 각 단부 플레이트는 단부면을 따라 강모 길이의 대략 1/2에서 종료하여, 강모가 조작시에 원주방향 및 축방향으로 굴곡되는 것을 방지하는 한편, 세그먼트의 전체 길이에 걸쳐 강모의 실질적으로 균일한 가요성을 유지하게 한다.
