Summary:PURPOSE: Provided is a water-based catalyst ink which contains no toxic and/or readily inflammable solvents and which in addition overcomes the disadvantages of the existing water-based ink such as poor adhesion, poor electrical performance, and short screen life. CONSTITUTION: The ink for producing a membrane electrode assembly for a fuel cell comprises a catalyst, an ionomer, water and an organic solvent, wherein said organic solvent is at least one linear dialcohol with a flash point higher than 100 deg.C and is present in the ink in a concentration between 1 and 50 wt.% with respect to the weight of water. The linear alcohol is a dihydric alcohol wherein hydroxyl groups are not adjacent to each other. The alcohol has a chain structure that is aliphate-CH2 groups, optionally with oxygen atoms between said CH2 groups.
