Summary:PURPOSE: To solve a problem of lowering in fuel rate caused by increased engine output at regenerating for recovering the degradation of a NOx adsorbing catalyst with time by adsorbing sulfur included in exhaust gas in the catalyst. CONSTITUTION: An engine output increment in aging degradation regenerating of the NOx adsorbing catalyst is absorbed (recovered) by a generator or a driving motor of a hybrid electric automobile, thereby suppressing an influence caused by changing engine output, and preventing the impairment of fuel consumption.
