Summary:PURPOSE: An orthogonal frequency division multiplex(OFDM) receiver is provided to detect and correct a carrier frequency offset of a received signal. CONSTITUTION: The OFDM receiver samples an incoming call signal in time domain and correlates the sampled signal with an OFDM signal of a version, having a training symbol or a reference symbol to generate a correlation sequence. A peak detector(70) detects a correlation peak in the correlation sequence, and the index of the correlation peak is set as a reference point(72, 74). The OFDM receiver acquires the incoming call signal at a position which is located from a reference point by a prescribed distance(74). Then a phase difference between the acquired sample and an output of a local oscillator is calculated(74). Then the frequency of the local oscillator is adjusted, and the calculated phase difference is reduced(76, 80). The acquired sample has a known phase equal to the phase of the output of the local oscillator, when no carrier frequency offset exists.
