PURPOSE: A device and a method for a video/audio playback in a television are provided to improve a function of a television by playing text data and audio data downloaded through a communication, or gotten through other storage media with a video/audio playback device of the television. CONSTITUTION: A device for a video/audio playback in a television includes a data storage media(15), a data decoder(16), and an audio switching part(17). The data storage media(15) is for storing audio data and text data transmitted through an external communication media or a storage media. The data decoder(16) performs an interface about a control signal through a micom(4) and an internal data communication, and in case that an output control signal of the text data and the audio data stored at the data storage media(15) is transferred, the data decoder(16) overlaps the text data with a receipt video through an OSD by transferring the text data to the micom(4). And, the data decoder(16) generates an audio signal by decoding the audio data, and generates a switching control signal for transmitting the audio signal. By selecting one between an audio signal output by an audio processor(11) and the audio signal output by the data decoder(16) according to the switching control signal, the audio switching part(17) transmits the selected one to an audio amplifying part(12). 본 발명은 별도의 메모리에 원하는 문자나 음성을 저장하고, 사용자가 선택한 문자는 일반 수신 영상에 오버랩(overlap)하여 디스플레이하고, 사용자가 선택한 음성은 스피커를 통해 송출토록 한 텔레비전의 영상/음성 재생 장치 및 그 방법에 관한 것으로서, 이러한 본 발명은, 사용자가 조작하는 키를 검색하고, 그 검색 결과 일반적인 텔레비전의 조작키이면 일반적인 영상/음성 재생 동작을 수행하고, 상기 검색 결과 사용자가 조작한 키가 특별한 문자/음성 재생키이면, 보조 메모리로부터 사용자가 선택한 문자 및 음성을 추출하며, 상기 추출한 문자 데이터는 문자 디코더로 전달하고, 추출한 음성 신호는 음성 스위치부로 전달한다. 그리고, 상기 문자 디코더에서 전달되는 문자 데이터를 디코딩하고, 그 디코딩한 사용자가 선택한 문자 데이터를 상기 영상 프로세서에 전달하여 수신 영상에 오버랩 되어 화면에 출력되도록 제어하며, 음성 스위치부를 제어하여 사용자가 선택한 음성 신호가 스피커를 통해 송출되도록 제어한다.
