CONSTITUTION: A tail 2b is made to be extendedly provided, and thereafter a capillary 1 is moved to a ball-forming position Z1 over an electric torch 3, the capillary 1 is made to descend to contact the point of a tail 2b with the torch 3, the position of the capillary 1 or the descended length of the capillary 1 when the capillary 1 is made to have continuity with the torch 3 is detected, a tail length L is calculated from the positions of the capillary 1 at contact times of an electric torch level Z2, a position Z1 and a wire 2 with the torch 3 or the height of the capillary 1 from a level Z2 at the position Z1 and a descended length H1 of the capillary 1 and the clamp timing of a clamper 6 is corrected, on the basis of this calculated result. 캐필러리의 상승 스피드를 떨어뜨리지 않고, 클램퍼 마다의 차이를 없이하여 안정된 테일 길이를 얻는다. 테일(2b)을 연재시킨 후, 캐필러리(1)를 전기 토치(3)의 상방의 볼 형성위치(Z1)에 이동시키고, 캐필러리(1)를 하강시켜 테일(2b)의 선단이 전기 토치(3)에 접촉되어 그 전기 토치(3)에 도통(導通)된 때의 캐필러리(1)의 위치 또는 캐필러리(1)가 하강한 길이를 검지하고, 전기 토치층(Z2), 볼 형성위치(Z1), 와이어(2)가 전기 토치(3)에 접촉된 때의 캐필러리(1)의 위치로부터 또는 볼 형성위치(Z1)에 있어서의 전기 토치층(Z2)으로부터의 캐필러리(1)의 높이와, 캐필러리(1)가 하강한 길이(H1)로부터 테일 길이(L)를 산출하고, 이 산출결과에 의거하여 클램퍼(6)의 클램프 타이밍을 보정한다.
