Summary:PURPOSE: A block copolymer polyurethane, its preparation method, a binder produced from the polyurethane and a molded article are provided, to obtain a polymer which gives proper hardness and abrasion durability to magnetic recording media and sufficient recording stability in storage or operation under a high temperature. CONSTITUTION: The thermoplastic block copolymer polyurethane having at least one soft segment A and at least one hard segment B, is characterized by that at least one hard segment B in the polyurethane has at least one anionic, at least one cationic or at least one nonionic anchor group. Preferably the polyurethane is represented by Y-(A-B(L)m-A-)nY or Y-(A-B(L)r-A-Z-)n-A-B(L)m-A-Y, wherein A, B and L represent a soft segment, a hard segment and an anchor group, respectively; Z is a radical of a compound X-Z-X; Y is a functional group reacting with the functional group X of the compound Z to form a covalent bond; X is a functional group reacting with the functional group Y to form a covalent bond; n is 1-10; m is 1-10; r is 0-10; and the number of anchor groups in total block copolymer polyurethane is 1 to n·m+1 in the former formula and 1 to n·r+m in the latter formula.
