Summary:PURPOSE: A process for preparing a styrene monomer by using improved heat exchange apparatus in which the heat exchange of vent gas and condensate water is achieved in a heat exchanger to prevent overloading of a settler stripper and to effectively heat exchange is provided, which makes it possible to operate separately a styrene monomer reaction part and a purifying part and maximize energy recovery. CONSTITUTION: This process comprises the steps of: separating vent gas, a crude styrene monomer and condensate water from a distillate of a styrene monomer reaction part in a separating apparatus(10); elevating the temperature of the condensate water by heat exchange of the separated condensate water with vent gas passed through a vent gas compressor(20) in a heat exchanger(1); elevating the temperature of the condensate water by passing through a heat exchanger(4)(5), removing hydrocarbon in a settler stripper(30) and sending to a utilization apparatus of a condensate water; and elevating the temperature of a separated crude styrene monomer in a heat exchanger(6) and introducing into a styrene monomer purifying part.
