PURPOSE: A reservation recording and playing method of a VCR using a link function is provided to receive a user's reservation information by displaying a reservation menu in a television set, and to perform a reservation recording or playing function at a pertinent point of time according to the reservation information by transferring the reservation information to a VCR through a control line. CONSTITUTION: If a reservation recording set key is inputted through a key input part of a television set, a microcomputer for TV displays a menu on a screen by means of an on-screen part. A user sets start and close time of broadcast programs which the user want to see, channels and recording modes. The microcomputer for TV transfers the reservation recording information set by the user to a VCR through a control line. A microcomputer of VCR stores the reservation recording information transferred by the television set in a memory installed inside thereof. The microcomputer compares the reservation time with a current time, and, if they are identical to each other, switches the channels according to the reservation information and performs a recording in pertinent recording modes.
