Summary:PURPOSE: A Schottky emitter cathode having stabilized ZrO2 reservoir is provided to prevent a breakup in ZrO2 reservoir of Schottky emitter cathode and reduce contamination caused by ZrO2 of electron gun. CONSTITUTION: Schottky emission cathode has a heating wire(2) made of first heat-resistant metal, a single crystal needle(1) made of a second heat-resistant metal and connected to the heating wire(2), and a supply of ZrO2(3) and a phase-stabilizing element on the needle, wire or connection between the needle and the wire. A reservior is disposed on one of the connection parts between the heating wire(2) and the single crystal needle(1) and composed of a chemical compound or a phase stabilized composition.
