Summary:PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of a desulfurizing agent and the productivity of the desulfurizing treatment and to achieve the reduction of slag producing quantity at the desulfurizing treatment by using mixed gas of inert gas and hydrocarbon base gas as the carrier gas and specify the ratio of the hydrocarbon gas to the desulfurizing agent. CONSTITUTION: This desulfurizing method for molten iron is executed with the ratio of hydrocarbon base gas to a desulfurizing agent of 2.0-50 Nl/kg. The injecting speed of the desulfurizing agent is =<1.0 kg/min/ton of molten iron, and the desulfurizing agent is desirable to be CaO base desulfurizing agent. In the case the injecting speed of the desulfurizing agent is =<1.0 kg/min/ton of molten iron, the ratio of propan gas as the hydrocarbon base gas to the desulfurizing agent (i.e., propan gas flow rate/desulfurizing agent) is made in the range of >=2.0 Nl/kg, to promote the desulfurizing reaction. The reason why the propan gas promotes the desulfurizing reaction, is because oxygen potential in the reaction interface between the molten iron and the desulfurizing agent is lowered.
