Summary:PURPOSE: New nonionic polyurethane/urea polymer associative thickener composition comprising at least two low molecular weight hydrophobes is provided which is useful for concentrating an aqueous system and changing its liquid phase rheology. CONSTITUTION: A new nonionic polyurethane/urea polymer associative thickener composition comprising at least two low molecular weight hydrophobes is manufactured by reacting a prepolymer of hydrophilic diol or alkoxyamine and diisocyanate with alkoxidated amine substituted hydrophobic radical. The polymer represents a general formula of (XY1Z)n-A-(ZY2X1)m in which X,X1 are hydrophobic radicals; Z is a hydrophobic group; A is polyol or alkoxy amine; Y1,Y2 are a hydrophilic spacer; m, n are an integer from 0 to 5, m+n < 1; Z always adheres to A by an urethane bond when A is polyol and it adheres to A by an urea bond when A is amine ended alkoxy; and Z adheres to Y1,Y2 by an urea bond. The product provides an effective thickener which can act in the wide range of pH without any necessary another additional process.
