The present invention relates to a functional planter comprising: a planter body having a containing space to contain stored water inside and an open top; a capillary carrier having porosity to be accommodated at or above a mid-upper end of the planter body and to allow capillary action to occur; a composite capillary carrier having a smaller particle size than that of the capillary carrier and disposed on top of the capillary carrier; and planting soil disposed on top of the composite capillary carrier, wherein the capillary carrier is formed with a particle size within 0.1 mm to 100 mm and filled to a height of at least 35 mm from the bottom of the planter body in an upward direction, wherein the composite capillary carrier is formed with a particle size within 1 mm to 35 mm and stacked to a height of at least 15 mm from the top of the capillary carrier, and wherein the planting soil may be stacked to a height of at least 35 mm from the top of the composite capillary carrier.
