The present invention relates to an RF overlay processing apparatus and a control method thereof. The RF overlay processing apparatus which transmits an RF broadcast signal together with an Internet data signal through an optical cable comprises: a plurality of RF overlay modules each of which receives and amplifies an RF broadcast signal from an optical transmitter, multiplexes the amplified broadcast signal and an Internet data signal received from a PON upstream base device, and outputs the multiplexed signal through a single optical cable; and a control unit configured to set any one of the plurality of RF overlay modules to an active state, and convert, when a failure is detected in at least one of the RF broadcast signal and the Internet data signal input to the RF overlay module set to the active state, the other of the plurality of RF overlay modules to an active state.
