The present invention relates to an object detection device for detecting surroundings of a work vehicle and a method thereof. According to the present invention, the object detection device for detecting an object approaching a working area of the work vehicle comprises: one or more sensors installed on the work vehicle and detecting objects located around a work radius; a control unit which classifies an area into a warning area, a danger warning area, a danger area, and a high-danger area according to the distance from the sensor, and determines the area in which the object is located by using the distance between the detected object and the sensor; and a notification unit which transmits a warning sound or announcement in response to the area in which the object is located. According to an embodiment, a sensor is formed on at least one among an outrigger, an outer boom, a boom support, a turntable of a work vehicle, and external access inhibition guide equipment, a visible and audible notification service is provided to a worker by detecting an object entering the periphery of the work vehicle through the sensor, and an accessing outsider is notified that work is in progress. 본 발명은 작업차량의 주변을 감지하기 위한 객체 감지 장치 및 그 방법에 대한 것이다. 본 발명에 따르면, 작업차량의 작업 영역 내에 접근하는 객체를 감지하기 위한 객체 감지 장치에 있어서, 작업차량에 설치되며 작업 반경 주위에 위치하는 객체를 감지하는 하나 이상의 센서, 상기 센서로부터 이격된 거리에 따라 경고영역, 위험 경고 영역, 위험 영역 및 고위험 영역으로 분류하고, 상기 감지된 객체와 센서와의 거리를 이용하여 상기 객체가 위치하는 영역을 판단하는 제어부, 그리고 상기 객체가 위치하는 영역에 대응하여 경고음 또는 안내 멘트를 송출하는 알림부를 포함한다. 본 발명의 실시예에 따르면, 작업차량의 아웃트리거, 겉붐, 붐 지지대, 턴테이블 및 외부 접근 금지 안내 장비 중에서 적어도 하나에 센서를 형성하고, 상기 센서를 통해 작업차량의 주변에 진입하는 객체를 감지하여 작업자에게 가시 및 가청 알림 서비스를 제공하고, 접근하는 외부 사람에게는 작업 중임을 알려 줄 수 있는 효과를 지닌다.
