An embodiment of the present invention relates to a method for improving image quality of ultra-high resolution image contents, wherein an image quality improvement processing device performs correction to improve image quality of ultra-high resolution image contents. To this end, the present method may comprise: an original image analysis step that image information including the resolution of an original image is analyzed; an expanded resolution image generating step that an expanded resolution image is generated by expanding the resolution of the original image by considering the image information of the original image; a phased color correction process which corrects the color of each pixel of the expanded resolution image by phase so as to reach the color of each pixel of the original image; a chromatic aberration removing step that chromatic aberration is removed from an edge portion of the expanded resolution image which has undergone the color correction by phase; a sharpness correction step that sharpness is corrected in the expanded resolution image from which the chromatic aberration at the edge portion is removed; a definition correction step that definition is corrected to reach a reference definition value predetermined with respect to the expanded resolution image which has undergone the sharpness correction; and a banding phenomenon removing step that a banding phenomenon of a strip shape, which is caused by a technical defect or error of an image filming device or the deviation of a lens, is removed with respect to the expanded resolution image which has undergone the sharpness and definition correction. 본 발명의 실시 형태는 화질 개선 처리 장치가, 초고해상도 영상 콘텐츠의 화질을 개선시키는 보정을 수행하는 초고해상도 영상 콘텐츠의 화질 개선 방법에 있어서, 원본 영상의 해상도를 포함하는 영상 정보를 분석하는 원본 영상 분석 과정; 원본 영상의 영상 정보를 참고하여 원본 영상의 해상도를 확장하여 확장 해상도 영상을 생성하는 확장 해상도 영상 생성 과정; 원본 영상의 픽셀별 색상이 되도록 확장 해상도 영상의 픽셀별 색상을 단계별로 보정하는 단계별 색상 보정 과정; 단계별 색상 보정이 이루어진 확장 해상도 영상의 에지 부분의 색수차를 제거하는 색수차 제거 과정; 에지 부분의 색수차 제거된 확장 해상도 영상에서 선예도를 보정하는 선예도 보정 과정; 상기 선예도 보정된 확장 해상도 영상에 대하여 미리 설정된 기준 선명도값이 되도록 선명도를 보정하는 선명도 보정 과정; 상기 선예도 및 선명도 보정된 확장 해상도 영상에 대하여, 영상 촬영 장치의 기술적 결함 또는 오류, 렌즈의 편차로 인해 발생 되는 띠 모양의 밴딩(Banding) 현상을 제거하는 밴딩 현상 제거 과정;을 포함할 수 있다.
