Abstract The present invention relates to an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory composition comprising a Hibiscus syriacus callus extract as an active ingredient. Since the composition comprising the Hibiscus syriacus callus extract of the present invention exhibits a broad antimicrobial spectrum against various harmful bacteria and acne causing bacteria, the composition of the present invention can be applied to various bacterial infections caused by harmful bacteria. In addition, the composition comprising the Hibiscus syriacus callus extract of the present invention is not cytotoxic, effectively inhibits nitric oxide (NO) mediated inflammatory response, and thus can be effectively used for the treatment and prevention of inflammatory diseases. Therefore, the composition of the present invention can be usefully used for antibacterial and anti-inflammatory purposes in various fields, such as cosmetics, medicine, and functional health food. 본 발명은 무궁화() 캘러스 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 항균 및 항염증용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 무궁화 캘러스 추출물을 포함하는 조성물은 다양한 유해 세균 및 여드름 원인균들에 대해 폭넓은 항균 스펙트럼을 나타내므로, 본 발명의 조성물은 유해 세균에 의해 발생하는 다양한 세균 감염증에 적용할 수 있다. 또한, 본 발명의 무궁화 캘러스 추출물을 포함하는 조성물은 세포 독성이 없고, 산화질소(NO) 매개 염증 반응을 효과적으로 억제하여 염증성 질환의 치료 및 예방에 효과적으로 사용될 수 있다. 따라서, 본 발명의 조성물은 화장품, 의약, 건강기능식품 등의 다양한 분야에서 항균 및 항염증 목적으로 유용하게 이용가능하다.
