The present invention relates to a target detecting apparatus for extracting feature points from only target candidate areas with increased accuracy by processing target candidate areas, in which background modeling is executed, through a plurality of filters. According to the present invention, the target detecting apparatus comprises: a background modeling unit for acquiring a background removed image by performing background modeling on an input image; a first target candidate area extracting unit for extracting a first target candidate area through a binarization process of the background removed image; a target candidate area determining unit for determining the final target candidate area by using a filter which infers a precise value by repetitively estimating an estimated value about a plurality of first target candidate areas extracted from sequentially acquired input images; and a target classifying unit for extracting a feature point from the final target candidate area, and recognizing and classifying a target. 본 발명은 배경 모델링이 실행된 표적 후보 영역을 복수의 필터를 통해 가공함으로써 정확도가 상향된 표적 후보 영역들에 대해서만 특징점 추출을 수행할 수 있도록 하는 표적 검출 장치를 제안한다. 본 발명에 따른 표적 검출 장치는 입력영상에 배경 모델링을 실행하여 배경 제거 영상을 획득하는 배경 모델링부와, 배경 제거 영상에 대한 이진화 과정을 통해 1차 표적 후보 영역을 추출하는 1차 표적 후보 영역 추출부와, 연속적으로 획득되는 입력영상들로부터 추출된 복수의 1차 표적 후보 영역에 대해 추정치를 반복적으로 추정하여 정확한 값을 유추하는 필터를 이용하여 최종 표적 후보 영역을 확정하는 표적 후보 영역 결정부 및 최종 표적 후보 영역에서 특징점을 추출하여 표적 인식 및 분류를 수행하는 표적 분류부를 포함한다.
