The present invention relates to a method for etching a display panel into a thin film to manufacture a curved display apparatus and a method for sealing to etch the display panel. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the etching method includes the following steps: performing a sealing method for the display panel, wherein the sealing method includes primarily coating an acid-resistant sealant on the portion of the display panel where a tap electrically connecting a driving circuit board into the display panel is attached, and secondarily coating a sealant onto the top of the sealant which is coated at the previous primary coating step; primarily etching the display panel, which is sealed at the previous sealing step, such that total thickness of both sides of the display panel is decreased; masking the display panel with a masking member such that a protrusion, which is formed at an unetched portion of the display panel both sides of which are etched at the previous primary etching step; and secondarily etching the display panel such that the thickness of the remaining portion of the display panel except for the portion of the display panel masked at the previous masking step is decreased. Therefore, a large curved display apparatus can be manufactured by etching a large size display panel with a uniform thickness and the damage to the display panel caused by etchants can be minimized. 본 발명은 곡면형 디스플레이장치를 제조하기 위해 디스플레이패널을 박막의 형태로 식각하는 식각방법 및 식각을 위한 씰링방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 식각방법은 디스플레이패널에 구동회로기판을 전기적으로 연결하는 탭이 부착되는 상기 디스플레이패널의 부분에 내산성을 갖는 실런트를 1차 도포하는 단계, 및 상기 실런트를 1차 도포하는 단계에서 도포된 실런트의 상부에 다시 실런트를 2차 도포하는 단계를 포함하는 디스플레이패널의 씰링방법으로 씰링을 수행하는 단계, 상기 씰링을 수행하는 단계에서 씰링된 상기 디스플레이패널의 양면이 전체적으로 두께가 감소되도록 1차 식각하는 단계, 상기 1차 식각하는 단계에서 양면의 두께가 전체적으로 식각된 디스플레이패널에 일부 미식각되어 돌출되는 돌출부를 형성하도록 마스킹부재로 마스킹을 수행하는 단계, 및 상기 마스킹된 디스플레이패널에 마스킹된 부분을 제외하고 나머지 부분의 두께가 감소하도록 2차 식각하는 단계를 포함한다. 따라서, 대형 디스플레이패널도 균일한 두께로 식각시켜 대형 곡면 디스플레이장치를 제작할 수 있으며, 식각액으로부터 디스플레이패널의 손상을 최소화할 수 있다.
